Go out and pick up litter with your kids. It’s quite eye-opening.
First of all, the obvious:
Humans are the kind of pigs that real pigs would never be! Shame on you!
We picked up litter today—and I gave up after one very heavy bag. There would have been plenty more to find.
My highlights from a single parking lot:
- 10 empty beer cans, neatly crushed along one axis
- The top 25% of a rolling garage door
- A balloon gas cylinder
- The coupling for a construction site water pipe, 2x sleeves
- A corner full of empty condom wrappers1
- An empty blister pack of Ramipril 25 mg
- Cigarette butts like there’s no tomorrow
- …
The kids’ comments are wonderful:
“Why is this HERE?”
“Who does something like that?”
…And I don’t know the answer either.
It’s also quite amazing how much trash accumulates in a short time and how much it all weighs.
All in all, though, it’s a good feeling to have done something for our environment.
